Helmet Standard: The currently valid ECE R 22/05 helmet standard requires visors to have a light transmission of at least 80% for unrestricted use at any time. Visors with a light transmission of 50-80% are labeled 'For daytime use only', thus suitable only for daytime usage. Cleaning: Similar to the helmet, the visor should be cleaned with lukewarm water and a bit of liquid soap. The concentration and aggressiveness of the soap should not be too strong as it can accumulate under the plastic parts and damage them. Visor Cleaner: There are special visor cleaners that are often used for cleaning the entire helmet. Use sparingly to avoid damaging the rubber and plastic parts. Drying: To avoid unwanted streaks when drying the visor, a lint-free, fine microfiber cloth should be used. Scratches: Never clean the visor hastily with motorcycle gloves or unsuitable or dirty objects! Particularly with coated visors, this can lead to scratches. If a visor has severe scratches, it is recommended to replace it. Scratched visors accelerate the aging process and pose a safety risk, especially when scratches are in the field of vision. Mirrored visors are particularly prone to scratches from careless handling, which can cause unwanted glare. Plasticizers: Visors contain plasticizers that evaporate over the years, which is intensified by frequent use and UV exposure. This reduces the visor’s flexibility, and in case of an accident, it could shatter and cause severe facial injuries. Replacement: The visor should be replaced after a maximum of five years.
