Helmet Standard - The current ECE R 22/05 helmet standard requires visors to have a light transmission of at least 80% for round-the-clock use without issues. Visors with a lower light transmission of 50-80% receive the additional label 'For daytime use only', meaning they are only suitable for daytime use. Cleaning - Like the helmet, the visor should be cleaned using lukewarm water with a bit of liquid soap. The soap should not be too concentrated or aggressive, as it could accumulate under the plastic parts and cause damage. Visor Cleaners - There are special visor cleaners that can often be used for cleaning the entire helmet. Again, do not use too much to avoid potential damage to the rubber and plastic parts. Drying - To dry the visor and avoid unwanted streaks, use a lint-free, fine microfiber cloth. Scratches - Under no circumstances should the visor be quickly wiped down with motorcycle gloves or other unsuitable or dirty items! This can lead to scratches, especially on coated visors. If a visor has severe scratches, it is advisable to replace it. Scratched visors not only accelerate the aging process but also pose a safety risk, particularly within the field of vision. Mirrored visors can become scratched and cause unwanted glare if handled roughly. Plasticizers - Visors contain plasticizers that evaporate over the years, a process exacerbated by frequent exposure to UV radiation. As a result, the visor loses its flexibility and can even shatter in the event of an accident, potentially causing severe facial cuts. Replacement - The visor should be replaced after no more than five years.
