Helmet Standard - The currently valid ECE R 22/05 helmet standard requires visors to have a light transmission of at least 80% to be used around the clock without problems. Visors with a lower light transmission of 50-80% are labeled 'For daytime use only', meaning they are suitable only for daytime use. Cleaning - As with the helmet, lukewarm water with a little liquid soap should be used to clean the visor. The concentration and aggressiveness of the soap should not be too strong, as it could accumulate under the plastic parts and damage them. Visor Cleaners - There are specific visor cleaners, which are often used for cleaning the entire helmet. Here too, avoid using too much to prevent possible damage to the rubber and plastic parts. Drying - To dry the visor and avoid unwanted streaks, use a lint-free, fine microfiber cloth. Scratches - Never 'quickly' wipe off the visor with motorcycle gloves or other unsuitable or dirty objects! This can lead to scratches, especially on coated visors. If a visor shows significant scratches, it should be replaced. Scratched visors accelerate the aging process and pose a safety risk, especially in the field of vision. Particularly mirrored visors can be scratched through insensitive handling, resulting in unwanted glare. Plasticizers - Visors contain what are known as plasticizers, which evaporate over the years, accelerated by frequent use and UV exposure. This results in the visor losing its flexibility, and in the event of an accident, it could shatter, causing severe cuts to the face. Replacement - The visor should be replaced no later than five years. The production date of SHOEI visors, for example, can be found on the left side of the visor in a four-digit code (month, year).
